I refer to your request for access to documents relating to the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act).

I would like to request your consent to an extension of time to enable us to complete your request.

Under section 15AA of the FOI, an agency may seek an applicant's written agreement for an extension of up to 30 days.

The reason I am seeking this extension is that the department is undertaking consultations with interested parties. The department is obliged to consider their views as part of the decision making process, which should see the department reach the correct decision on the material, in the first instance.

At present, the due date for the completion of your request is Monday 2 December 2013.

Should you be agreeable to a 7 day extension, your request would fall due on Monday 9 December 2013.
