Analysis of Applicant Success Rates in the Recruitability Scheme

Currently waiting for a response from Australian Public Service Commission, they should respond promptly and normally no later than (details).

Dear Australian Public Service Commission,

I am writing to request information regarding the number of people with disabilities who have applied for positions through the Recruitability Scheme, as well as their success rates in securing employment. Specifically, I would appreciate if this data could be provided department-wise, allowing for a more detailed analysis of inclusivity and accessibility within the APS workforce.

The information requested would greatly assist in understanding the effectiveness of current diversity initiatives and help identify areas for improvement. By examining department-specific data, we can gain valuable insights into the hiring practices and outcomes for individuals with disabilities across various sectors of the Federal Government.

Please include details such as the total number of applicants with disabilities, the number of successful applicants offered positions, and any relevant demographic breakdowns or trends observed within each department. Additionally, if there are any existing reports or publications on this topic, I would be grateful to receive them alongside the requested data.

I understand that compiling this information may require time and resources, but I believe it would greatly contribute to our collective efforts in promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities within the public sector. Any assistance you can provide in fulfilling this request would be sincerely appreciated.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response.

Warm regards,

Yours faithfully,

Ghyas Alam

Dear FOI,

Thank you for your prompt response and acknowledgment of my request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. I appreciate the efforts undertaken by the Australian Public Service Commission to conduct reasonable searches and gather data within the specified scope from 1 July 2022 to the present date.

I agree with the proposed date range and am satisfied with commencing the process based on this period. However, I would like to emphasize the significance of the legislative framework governing the scheme, specifically under section 28 of the Australian Public Service Commissioner's Directions 2016, which has been amended and in force since 25 July 2019. It is imperative that the data range aligns with the commencement of this legislation.

Therefore, in your response, could you please provide clarification regarding why the data from 25 July 2019 to 1 July 2022 could not be made available? Understanding any constraints or reasons for this gap would greatly assist in comprehending the scope and availability of the requested information.

If there are any further clarifications needed or if you require additional information from my end, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you once again for your attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Ghyas Alam

OFFICIAL

Dear Ghyas

We refer to your correspondence dated 10 April 2024, and thank you for
agreeing with the proposed date range.

In processing the FOI request we would like to clarify that you are
seeking information pertaining to the Commission only. Although the
Commission has visibility of the number of APS employees with a recorded
disability, we do not have oversight of recruitment at the level you seek
in each agency.

We would be grateful if you could provide confirmation by COB 18 April
2024 that you are seeking data pertaining to the Commission only. If we do
not receive a response by the stipulated timeframe, the Commission will
proceed with providing you data that pertains to the Commission.

Kind regards

Department of Finance
Department of Education
Department of Employment and Workplace Relations
Department of Social Services
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
Department of Health and Aged Care
Department of Industry, Science and Resources
Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts
Department of Home Affairs

I expect this information to be provided for the agreed-upon date range, along with any explanations for data unavailability since enforcement of the legislative framework governing the scheme on July 25, 2019.
