I refer to your application received 23 March 2016 in which you seek
access to documents under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the Act) in
relation to Incident P1428942.

The AFP, in its management of FOI requests, excludes the following
information on the basis that is irrelevant to the scope of a request:

-      Names of AFP members, other than the Senior Executive.

-      Direct telephone numbers and mobile telephone numbers of AFP

provide emails where they form a final email chain and the

-      Information that is publicly available, for example, newspaper
articles, online publications including information available on the AFP
Information Publication Scheme and the AFP disclosure log.

If you object to the AFP excluding any of the above information, please
advise this office within seven days of receipt of this letter.

Your request was received by this agency on 23 March 2016 and the 30 day
statutory period for processing your request commenced from that date.

I note that you have requested information in relation to yourself.  To
ensure that your personal information is not inappropriately released to
someone other than yourself, we request that you provide a form of
photographic identification, such as a copy of your driver’s licence or
passport, to verify your identity.  If you do not supply us with a copy of
your identification, the information may be exempt and we will not be able
to release documents to you.

FOI, Australian Federal Police

UNCLASSIFIED

Dear Mr. Gannon,

Your Freedom of Information Request

I refer to your application dated 23 March 2016 seeking access to information under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (the Act).

As your request covers documents which contain individual persons’ information, the Australian Federal Police is required to consult with the private individuals before making a decision on the release of those documents.

Sub-section 15(6) of the Act provides for an extension of 30 days to the statutory 30 day time limit for processing requests. The statutory timeframe for your application commenced on 23 March 2016. Therefore, the time limit for processing your request and notification of a decision will now expire on 22 May 2016.

Often in undertaking this consultation process, the third parties enquire as to who the FOI applicant is. Specifically, the FOI guidelines state that it is unnecessary and inadvisable to disclose the name of the applicant and accordingly, we do not disclose the identity of the FOI applicant unless permission is granted.

I would be grateful for your comments in relation to the above.

Yours sincerely,
