Data Asset Register

Patrick Conheady made this Freedom of Information request to Australian Taxation Office

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by Australian Taxation Office.

Patrick Conheady

Dear Australian Taxation Office,

Please provide the ATO's Data Asset Register including data dictionaries.

Yours faithfully,
-Pat.

Dann, Nicole, Australian Taxation Office

Dear Mr Conheady,

Thank you for your FOI request. We will consider your request and respond as soon as possible.

FOI requests are required to be processed within 30 days from the date we receive an application. While we aim to achieve this timeframe, certain requests that are large or involve complex issues may take longer. If this is the case we will contact you to discuss when the material can be made available. Further, unless your request is for personal information, charges may apply depending on the size and complexity of your case. We will notify you if there are charges and what those charges will be. We will obtain your consent to any additional charges before processing the request.

The ATO will close at 12pm on Thursday 24 December 2015 and will re-open on Monday 4 January 2016. We therefore seek your agreement to a 30 day extension of the processing period under section 15AA of the FOI Act to cover this shutdown period and other leave taken by staff around this time. Of course, we will continue to process your request and provide our decision as soon as we can.

If you agree to the extension, please respond by return email.

Regards,

Nicole Dann

Dear Nicole,

I agree to the extension.

Yours sincerely,
-Pat.

Patrick Conheady

Dear Nicole,

I agreed to an extension to the timeframe for this request, which takes it to roughly mid-February.

Could you please confirm that someone is attending to this request, and whether you anticipate any further extensions will be required?

Yours faithfully,

-Pat.

Dann, Nicole, Australian Taxation Office

Dear Pat,

I can confirm that I have been working on the request with the help of the appropriate officers from the relevant business line.

Unfortunately we will need more time to process this request. I intend to send a request to the Office of the Information Commissioner today requesting a further 30 days, taking the due date to 14 March 2016.

As you are aware the Data Asset register is a relatively new internal product and is constantly evolving. The backend of the register, which is what we are required to pull in order to provide it as a document under FOI, was not created with a release to the public in mind. We need to give thought to each entry and consider if any harm would come from the release of the material and if any of the material should be appropriately redacted.

I apologise for the delay and we will work to get a decision to you as soon as possible.

Kind Regards

Dear Nicole,

Thanks for your email.

I'm not sure whether you're already doing this, but can I ask that the documents be released in a machine-readable form and as close as possible to their original form? For example, if the original is an Excel file then I would like to get an Excel file (with cells blanked out as necessary) rather than, say, a PDF image of that document. This will facilitate searching, reading and copy-pasting.

Yours sincerely,

-Pat.

Mr Patrick Conheady

Dear Mr Conheady

Extension of time request under s15AB

On 5 February 2016, the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) requested further
time to make a decision on your FOI request of 15 December 2016.

This request was on the basis that the processing period is insufficient
to deal adequately with your request, because it is complex and/or
voluminous.

As a delegate of the Information Commissioner I have decided to grant the
ATO an extension of time of 30 days for this request, to 14 March 2016.
This decision has been made under s15AB(2) of the Freedom of Information
Act 1982 (Cth) (the Act).

If you would like to discuss this matter you may contact me on 02 9284
9731 or via email [1][email address].

Yours sincerely
