Dear Local Council,

Can you please provide me with the number of food safety inspections carried out in your area annually, for the last three years?

How many warning were issued each year and how many fines each year?

What percentage of all food outlets did the council inspect each year?

Have any outlets been shut down for non-compliance and if so what for and how many?

What were the worst offences/biggest fines for each year?

Yours faithfully,

Nigel Gladstone

Please note the reporting period is financial year for 14/15 and 15/16.

Can you please provide me with the number of food safety
inspections carried out in your area annually, for the last three years?

Relates to high and medium risk businesses:

14/15 - 500

15/16 - 538

How many warning were issued each year and how many fines
each year?

14/15 - 16 warning letters and 4 penalty notices

15/16 - 25 warning letters and 5 penalty notices

What percentage of all food outlets did the council
inspect each year?

14/15 - 91%

15/16 - 95%

Have any outlets been shut down for non-compliance and if
so what for and how many?

Local Councils have a regulatory responsibility for retail food premises.
Local Councils can, under certain circumstances as detailed in the Food
Act 2003 issue Prohibition Orders.  In 14/15 and 15/16 a total of 0
prohibitions orders were served on retail food premises.

What were the worst offences/biggest fines for each year?

The Local Government Fixed Penalty Handbook lists the monetary value for
the various offences under the Food Act 2003.

I trust that this information is of assistance.

Yours faithfully

Dear Courtney Coburn,

Thanks for the information. I did try calling but no one answered and there was no voicemail function.

Can you please proved the numbers for the 2013/14 year and also the number of formal improvement notices issued in each year, unless they were the penalty notices referred to above?

Yours sincerely,

Nigel Gladstone
