Inquiry into support for autistic children and young people in schools - recommendation 19

Dear WA Department of Education,

The final report of the WA Parliament's Education and Health Standing Committee's inquiry into support for autistic children and young people in schools, tabled 21 March 2024, recommended:

'That the Minister for Education direct that the Department of Education’s application of Applied Behaviour Analysis in relation to autistic students be independently reviewed and evaluated.' (Recommendation 19).

I request:
1) A copy of any such direction made by the Minister for Education to the Department of Education (DoE).
2) Copies of all DoE communications since 21 March 2024 pertaining to recommendation 19 (e.g. emails, briefing notes, meeting minutes etc), including any internal communications between DoE staff, and any communications made between DoE staff and external stakeholders (e.g. external evaluators).
3) Copies of all procurement documentation relating to the engaement of an evaluator.
4) Copies of all draft or final reports prepared by the evaluator that are held by DoE.
5) Copies of any briefings to the Minister for Education by the DoE regarding recommendation 19.
