Dear Nicole

Thank you for your email dated 21 May 2018, in which you requested access to ‘the latest documents that include the following:

1. Statistics of the number of online services for accommodation in NSW in 2017.
2. Statistics of the number of local students using online accommodation services to look for accommodation in NSW from 2017 until now.
3. Statistics of the number of international students using online accommodation services to look for accommodation in NSW from 2017 until now.
4. The rules and regulations set for online accommodation services to operate in NSW as of 2018 or the latest amendment.’

The ACMA is responsible for the regulation of broadcasting, radiocommunications, telecommunications and some aspects of the internet, in accordance with the functions and responsibilities set out in Part 2, Division 2 of the Australian Communications and Media Authority Act 2005.

Although the ACMA does have some limited functions in respect of online content, it does not collect statistics on page information, page views or users generally. I also note that the ACMA is a Commonwealth regulator, and as such is not responsible for NSW specific regulation.

You asked that, if possible, we should treat this as an administrative/informal request; or, otherwise, to deal with it as a formal information request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982. As your request does not relate to any of the functions performed by the ACMA, and the ACMA therefore does not possess any documents requested by you, the ACMA has treated your request as an informal request, and will be taking no further action.

Sincerely

ACMA FOI Coordinators

Sent a follow up to Australian Communications and Media Authority again.

From: Freedom of Information
Australian Communications and Media Authority

Hi Nicole

We're not aware of any Commonwealth (or other) agency that would collect those statistics. The website for the Australian Bureau of Statistics (http://www.abs.gov.au/) has a range of publicly accessible statistics, but we're not aware of them collecting the information that you are seeking.

(Apologies if this response is duplicated, but there seem to have been some difficulties with other attempts to respond to your email.)

Kind regards
