Request for documents regarding measures and reports on railway noise impacts on nearby residents

We're waiting for Ha to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Department of Transport and Planning (Victoria),

Under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (Vic), I am requesting access to documents held by the Department relating to noise impacts from Victoria’s railway network (including trains operated or managed by Public Transport Victoria and its contracted operators).

Specifically, I request copies of any:

1. Plans, studies, reports, or internal reviews concerning the impact of railway noise — particularly train horn noise — on residents living near railway lines in Victoria;

2. Records, statistics, or summaries of complaints received from residents regarding railway noise or train horns over the past five (5) years;

3. Policies, guidelines, or mitigation measures implemented or proposed by the Department or PTV to reduce the impact of railway noise (including horn noise) on nearby residents;

4. Any communications or correspondence between PTV and the Department regarding strategies to manage or reduce railway noise impacts.

If possible, please provide the documents in electronic form (PDF or Word).

I understand that some information may be redacted for privacy reasons. However, I request that the Department release as much material as possible under the public interest provisions of the Act.

The Freedom of Information Act 1982 requires all applicants to pay a fee of $33.60. Lodgement of request and payment can be made online via Freedom of Information online portal | Department of Justice and Community Safety Victoria and selecting “Department of Transport” as the agency.

Payment may be waived or reduced if it would cause financial hardship to the applicant. Evidence in support of a claim of hardship would include a copy of a Pension Card or Health Care Card.
