Such as the:

Dear Lord Stagg,

Thank you for your FOI request to the Treasury. I apologise for the delay in responding to you formally.

To add some clarification to the previous email, "international activities" is not specific enough to allow the Treasury to identify documents that you're seeking to access, even with the example that you provided. If you're seeking documents relating to registrations held by the US Security and Exchange Commission, then I would suggest contacting the SEC directly in the first instance: https://www.sec.gov/page/office-foia-ser.... If the SEC provide you with documents that indicated Treasury involvement in the example you've raised (and you wished to narrow your scope to just the example you raised), then you could use the documents to inform a new FOI request to the Treasury.

In regards to the second part of your request, the FOI Act currently only applies to documents created from 1996 (known as the closed access period). Documents created prior to this date can be accessed via the Archives Act, which is managed by the National Archives of Australia. You can find information on this process (and the access periods) here: http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/fact-sh....

Section 15 of the FOI Act states that a valid FOI request is required to "provide such information concerning the document as is reasonably necessary to enable a responsible officer of the agency, or the Minister, to identify it". Given that the Treasury is unable to identify the docuements that you're seeking, I do not consider that your request meets this criteria, and so is not a valid FOI request. If you still wish for the Treasury to process your request, then you are welcome to resubmit your request taking the above into account.
