Hi there,

Thanks for your decision. I would like to make a similar request now, for documents guiding the application of Boat IDs (as distinct from the earlier request about their introduction).

Thanks again for your efforts and research.

Warm regards,

Luke Bacon

Dear Mr Bacon

Thank you for your email.

In order to further assist you with your request, we require additional
information in relation to the type of vessel ID you are seeking
information about.

AMSA is responsible for issuing of vessel IDs to domestic commercial
vessels operating within Australia. These are called unique vessel
identifiers (UVI). Information about UVIs and the application process can
be found on the AMSA website at the below links.

[1]Unique vessel identifiers (amsa.gov.au)

[2]Obtain and display a unique vessel identifier (amsa.gov.au)

The Shipping Registration Office also issues vessels that register on the
Australian General Shipping Register or Australian International Shipping
Register an official number. Details on registering a vessel on those
registers, the requirements and process are also available on AMSA’s
website [3]here.

If your request is in regard to identification numbers given to suspected
illegal entry vessels (SIEVs), that is the purview of the Department of
Home Affairs.  AMSA does not hold information relating to the naming
conventions for these vessels.

Please advise how you would like the request to proceed, noting that
information about how AMSA issues identification numbers for vessels is
available on its website.

Kind regards

Hi there,

Home Affairs in fact have said they have no such documents relating to these ID's and indicated that the AMSA produced them https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/i...

The kinds of ID numbers I am interested in relate to vessels such as listed here by DoHA https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/foi/files... .

A Boat ID comprises of the 'vessel prefix' + three numerals, and are given to people who were on the boat.

Does that clarify?

Yours sincerely,

Luke Bacon
