FOI Request – Motorcycle Third Party Property Damage Claim Payouts
Dear FOI Officer,
I am making a request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982.
I am seeking access to data submitted to APRA by general insurers under the General Insurance Reporting Framework (GRF), or any equivalent internal claims dataset maintained by APRA.
Request:
I request a dataset showing the individual dollar amounts paid out for insurance claims involving motorcycles under Third Party Property Damage (TPPD) motor vehicle insurance, for the period from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2023.
I am not requesting any personally identifiable information. I only seek the raw claim payout amounts (one amount per row). If the data includes a field to identify vehicle type (e.g. "motorcycle"), that is acceptable and encouraged.
If available, I would prefer the data in a machine-readable format (e.g. CSV or Excel).
If this request can be fulfilled using extracts from submissions such as GRF 410.0 or GRF 420.0, or from any internal databases compiled from those submissions, I would be happy to accept data in that format.
Please let me know if you require any clarification.
Kind regards,
Jonathan Elias

Dear Mr Elias,
Please find attached APRA’s Notice of Decision for FOI request 25-64 dated
5 June 2025.
To provide some context for the decision, please note APRA collects data
on motor vehicle insurance (including third party property damage)
covering private use motor vehicles including utilities and lorries,
motorcycles, private caravans, box and boat trailers, and other vehicles
not normally covered by business or commercial policies. However, APRA
does not collect data on the amounts of individual claims. Rather, the
data collected by APRA on motor vehicle insurance is the total claims paid
per insurer each quarter.
Kind regards,
FOI Officer
