Age Assurance Roundtables
Dear eSafety Commissioner,
I wish to make a request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 for documents related to age assurance consultation arising out of the request for expressions of interest published by eSafety on or about 5 May 2025.
This request covers documents dated between 1 April 2025 and 12 August 2025, inclusive.
My request is limited to documents under that category relating to the following matters:
(a) Who was selected for participation in targeted roundtables or meetings arising out of this expression of interest; and
(b) The criteria used in their selection; and
(c) Applicants who were NOT selected, if any, who represented the perspectives of young people, the LGBTIQA+ community, culturally and linguistically diverse people, people with disability or neurodiversity, or adult industry and sex workers.
In relation to (c) above I am satisfied with de-identified data. That is to say, it is sufficient to identify the quantity of such unsuccessful applicants (if any) who existed, to prevent the need for you to contact them or reveal their information. (And I could then make a further targeted FOI later if I felt I wanted more detail.)
You may redact the names and identifying information of public servants or contractors, other than the eSafety Commissioner.
You may redact the contact details or other private information of successful applicants for the consultation, but I do not consent to redaction of their names or organisations.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Greg Tannahill
OFFICIAL
Dear Mr Tannahill
I am writing to acknowledge your request under the Freedom of Information
Act 1982 (Cth) (FOI Act) received on 12 August 2025.
We note your consent to redact:
o the names and identifying information of public servants or
contractors, other than the eSafety Commissioner; and
o contact details or other private information of successful applicants
for the consultation (but not their names or organisations).
We confirm that in relation to point (c) of your request you are only
seeking de-identified data; that is, the total number of parties falling
within point (c).
Unless you advise otherwise, we will also proceed on the basis that you do
not require duplicates or drafts of material in scope.
The FOI Act allows 30 days for processing your request. This period may be
extended for charges and third-party consultation. We will let you know if
this occurs.
We will contact you at the email address above unless you advise
otherwise. Any documents released to you as part of this decision will be
published on our disclosure log unless one of the relevant exceptions
apply. Further information about the FOI Act, including eSafety’s
publication obligations, is available on our website at

FOI Coordinator

Dear eSafety FOI,
Thank you. In regard to point (c), yes, a number is fine, but it should be an individual number for each of those categories. That is to say:
(i) young people;
(ii) the LGBTIQA+ community;
(iii) culturally and linguistically diverse people;
(iv) people with disability or neurodiversity;
(v) adult industry and sex workers.
With thanks,
Greg Tannahill
