Dear Australian National University,

Under the Freedom of Information Act 1982, I request access to the following documents:
- "ANYOU" staff engagement survey reports for the March 2023 survey.

I note that the survey results were broken down to the College/Portfolio/School/Centre/Division level, as indicated in the FAQ published by the University and archived at <https://web.archive.org/web/202305301659...>. I specifically include these College/Portfolio/School/Centre/Division reports within this request.

- "ANYOU" staff engagement survey reports for September 2024 survey.

I note that the survey information published by the University to all staff indicated that "Initial aggregated results [would be] shared with all employees" in October 2024, and that October-November 2024 would have the broken down results shared with employees. I specifically include these broken down results at the College/Portfolio/School/Centre/Division level within this request.

To assist in the processing of this request, I agree to the redaction where necessary of any person's contact details, as well as redaction of names of any person other than those employed by the University at the level of Senior Manager 4 (SM4) or higher, and any equivalent individual contracts or academic positions.

Yours faithfully,
Alex

Dear Australian National University,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Australian National University's handling of my FOI request 'ANYOU Staff Engagement Survey'.

You have refused the request on the basis that the information was already available. This ignores that my request specifically requested College/Portfolio/School/Centre/Division level breakdowns which were not released in the referenced FOI request. The university's own FAQ indicates that these documents exist, so I can only assume that the search conducted was not adequate under s24(A) of the FOI Act as it is difficult to believe that these documents do not exist.

Additionally the information released for the September 2024 survey includes redactions of the actual results of the survey claiming a conditional exemption under s47(E) which I do not believe are justified. To suggest that a survey of all staff conducted over 6 months ago, where the University promised to release the results to all staff and has as of this writing not done so, could be covered by the conditional exemption in s47(E) is, on the face of it, completely unreasonable. This is information the university has committed to releasing, has failed to do so, and is continuing to fail to release.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/a...

Yours faithfully,
Alex Medland

Dear applicant,
As your request had reached deemed decision status, it is not eligible for
an internal review.
You are welcome to request an external review by the Information
Commissioner.
The information that is publicly available under FOI 202500034 is the
entirety of the information that exists in relation to your request based
on what we have been advised through search and retrieval activities,
where the team who holds the information about ANYOU surveys was contacted
directly. We are unable to speculate as to why documents exist or do not
exist, our role is to undertake all reasonable searches and finalise
requests accordingly once those searches are completed - whether documents
exist or not.
