Council Ranger issued fines
Dear City of Sydney,
I would like the most recent data on CoS Council Ranger issued fines in relation to:
Over stayed parking
Smoking in Public Places
and more specifically, how many fines have been issued within Pitt Street Mall since it became a smoke-free zone.
Additionally has there been any policy guidelines issued by the Mayor in relation to the prioritising of one category of offence over the other?

Thank you for your below Enquiry (ref: 2017/158227) relating to the City’s
issued fines.
Your enquiry was forwarded to the City Rangers Section for response.
Please see below their reply:
“In answering the questions below, please find the following information:
1. City Rangers do not issue fines for ‘no smoking’ in Pitt St Mall, but
rather use education approach;
2. City Rangers issued a total 68,391 penalties to vehicles overstaying
time limits in time restricted parking and ticket parking areas in the
last 12 months (as per below);
3. I am not aware of any LM policy that would stipulate priorities for
one offence over another. In saying this, the logic would suggest that
more serious offences should not be neglected in favour of less
serious offences.”

Park for longer than allowed by ticket signs 2,120

Thank you for your prompt response.
On what basis is a parking infringement, which carries no health related concerns considered a more serious infringement than smoking in a public location with the serious and proven health concerns of second-hand smoking?
With the City's own statements showing high level (80%) of public support for the ban (http://www.sydneymedia.com.au/pitt-stree... and http://www.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au/commu...), why on earth would the council continue to pander to this minority in blatant breach of the law?

Please see below their reply:
“While it may be suggested that the seriousness of an offence is reflected
by the penalty amount that is set by the statute (the higher the penalty
the more serious the offence is), it may not be appropriate to compare
examples below as these offences created by virtue of different Acts.
Thus, the question on public policy of what is more serious shall be
referred to NSW Government that sets penalty notices' amounts.”
