Tim Highfield

Dear National Australia Day Council,

I am a researcher examining social media and politics in Australia. I seek documents relating to the work of the council and its affiliate groups regarding the development of social media campaigns promoting Australia Day, specifically from 2016 onwards.

I seek documents concerning:
1. The development of social media campaign material, including branded emoji (also known as hashtag emoji, hashflags, or Twitter emoji) on Twitter for the #AustraliaDay hashtag.

2. The commercial or otherwise relationship between the council and Twitter (and other social media platforms) in connection with these campaigns. Twitter's advice has been that such campaigns are commercial products; I seek information as to whether or not this is an accurate description of this partnership.

2a. If this is a commercial relationship, information about costing and expenditure for the development of these campaigns.

2b. If this is not a commercial relationship, communication between the council and Twitter regarding the type of collaborative partnership this represents.

3. Communication and information about the design of elements including branded emoji, drafts and rejected designs, and briefs about how to plan and carry out these campaigns.

4. Commentary, analysis, or opinion, expressed internally from January 1 2016 to the date of filing of this request, about the social media campaigns, their success or otherwise, and the imagery used.

Yours faithfully,

Tim Highfield.
