Dear Mr Shih,

Thank you for your request to access records via the National Archives of Australia. Unfortunately I did not locate any direct reference to the Iran Hostage Crisis in the title searches I conducted via our RecordSearch database. Noting the nature of your request, I wish to clarify what is able to be offered by the National Archives reference service. The Archives is happy to assist you to learn the system of arrangement and give guidance on searching techniques. We may even do a little basic research suggesting certain places in the collection to look. However it is your responsibility to use the tools provided to identify records of interest to you. We are do not have the capability to conduct in-depth research for you.

Much of what you have requested we are unable to assist with. We can facilitate access to records created by the Australian Embassy in Tehran and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and TradeCanberra Reading Room or Order Copies.

For much of the above, it helps if you Register as a Researcher. This allows you to submit access applications online directly from the item record in RecordSearch, if the item is not yet examined. Being registered also makes it easier when it comes to ordering records to the Reading Room.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

Tim Mifsud
