Beth Sometimes made this Freedom of Information request to NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services.

Dear NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services,

Could you please send through a list or summary of incidents involving the NT Police that occurred in/at or in the vicinity of the Coles Complex Alice Springs (45 Railways Tce, Alice Springs) between 2008 and 2018?

If possible, please treat this as an administrative/informal request. Otherwise please proceed with my request as a formal information request under the Act.

Yours faithfully,

Beth Sometimes

Information, Police,

Good morning Beth,

Please accept my apologies on behalf of NT Police, Fire and Emergency Services for the delay in our response.
Please note that your request has not been accepted as a valid application under section 18 of the Information Act which states:

Subdivision 1
How is an application made and how is it processed?
18 Application for access to government information
(1) A person may apply to a public sector organisation for access to government information held by the organisation, including the person's personal information.
(2) An application is to:
(a) be in writing; and
(b) specify the name of the applicant; and
(c) include sufficient details to identify the information; and
(d) specify an address to which correspondence regarding the application may be sent to the applicant.
(2A) The application is to be accompanied by the application fee.
(3) Before accepting an application, a public sector organisation must satisfy itself as to the identity of the applicant.

I understand you are requesting a list or summary of incidents involving the NT Police that occurred in/at or in the vicinity of the Coles Complex Alice Springs (45 Railways Tce, Alice Springs) between 2008 and 2018.
I do not believe any such list would exist, and I believe it would take a significant amount of time to identify the requested information and compile a list of reference numbers and associated dates.
I note that the Information Act only covers information in existence at the time of the request, we are not compelled to create information in order to satisfy a request.
I also do not believe that it would be of any assistance to direct you to our website which contains a Freedom of Information application form, outlines how to lodge an application and the applicable fees for application and processing.

However, I have attached the link for your reference only:

Should you wish to discuss further I can be contacted on 08 8985 8926 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

The application was refused because it was not a valid application. The officer has included some more useful information to explain that the request would probably be refused even if the applicant changed the request, and paid the fee, to make it valid.
