Dear Department of Parliamentary Services,

Hi. I edit @NoFibs (http://australiansforhonestpolitics.word...).

I recently published an article on the press gallery (http://australiansforhonestpolitics.word...), and several readers have asked for a list of present members and who they work for.

I understand you have that list because you are responsible for maintaining the security pass database. I request a copy.

To avoid privacy concerns, I advise that I have no objection to the blackout of contact details.

Yours faithfully,

Margo Kingston

Teece, Jenny (DPS), Department of Parliamentary Services

Ms Kingston

I am writing to you regarding your request under the FOI Act for a list of
present Federal Press Gallery members and who they work for.

As Dr Heriot advised in her letter of  28 June 2103, the information
released to you under the FOI Act was a partial release of information.
As you are aware there were a number of Federal Press Gallery pass holders
who could not be contacted to ascertain if they wished to make an
exemption contention as third parties to your request.

Since that advice the Parliament has amended the Parliamentary Service Act
to confirm the intention of Parliament that all parliamentary departments
are excluded from the application of the Freedom of Information Act 1982
(FOI Act). The effect of the amending legislation is that from Friday 28
June 2013 the FOI Act is taken not to apply and not to have ever applied
to the parliamentary departments. While the Department is excluded from
the operation of the FOI Act, it will, in relation to administrative
matters, continue to respond to requests for information in the spirit of
the FOI Act.

In that spirit I note that the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery now has
its list of members available on its website.  I have copied the link for
you below:

[1]http://pressgallery.net.au/?page_id=10

This should now complete the information you originally requested from the
Department of Parliamentary Services.

If you wish to discuss any aspect of this matter please contact me on (02)
6277 5501 or by email at [2][email address]
