Racism@Uni Survey
Dear Australian Human Rights Commission FOI Officer,
I request access to the most recent, final, or current version of the report or reports prepared by the Australian National University that analyse or report on the results of the "Racism@Uni Survey" conducted as part of the Commission’s study into racism in Australian universities, announced in May 2024. This is the report referred to in the Daily Telegraph reporting by Charles Chadwick on 21 October 2025.
Please limit this request to the single most recent version of the document held by the Commission at the time this request is processed.
Yours faithfully,
Emma
Dear Emma,
Thank you for your email. I have reviewed the Daily Telegraph article and the report that it refers to is a report by the Australian Human Rights Commission. The Commission expects that this report will be published this month.
The Freedom of Information Act provides that when an FOI request is made for a report that has been prepared for the purpose of being made available to government, access to that document can be deferred until a reasonable period after the report has been provided to government.
In the circumstances, let me know if you are content to wait until the report is made public before assessing whether any FOI request is necessary.
Kind regards,
Graeme

Dear Graeme,
Thank you for your response.
I wish to clarify that my request is not for the Commission’s own report, but for any report or reports prepared by the Australian National University for the Australian Human Rights Commission in relation to the Racism@Uni project.
In particular, I am seeking access to any report of work undertaken by the ANU on the Racism@Uni survey that has been provided to, or is held by, the Commission, whether final or in its most recent current form.
On that basis, I do not consider this request to be limited to a report prepared by the Commission for government. I would be grateful if you could confirm whether the Commission holds such a document and, if so, proceed to process this request under the Freedom of Information Act.
Yours sincerely,
Emma E. Edwards
