Dear Mr Smith

Freedom of Information Request FOI23/223

I refer to your request to the Attorney-General's Department (the
department) under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) for access
to documents. Your request is for:

              1. Australian government periodic reports referred to under
Article VII of the International Convention on the Suppression and
Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid.

2. All documents relating to Articles III and IV of the International
Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid and
Australia's relationship with Israel, including visits to Australia by

If you disagree with this interpretation of your request, please let me
know in writing as soon as possible.

The department received your request on 20 April 2023 and the 30 day
statutory period for processing your request commenced from the day after
that date. You should therefore expect a decision from us by 22 May 2023.
However, the period of 30 days may be extended if the department needs to

FOI Requests, Attorney-General's Department

1 Attachment

Dear Mr Smith

I refer to your FOI23/223 request. Our preliminary searches show that the
department does not have any documents in-scope of your request. I had a
discussion within the department and with our FOI colleagues in the
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Your request appears to be more
suited for DFAT.

We therefore seek your agreement to withdraw this FOI request from the
department. You may want to submit a new FOI request to DFAT.

Could you please provide us with your response by Friday 5 May 2023 if you
agree to withdraw your FOI request.

Yours sincerely

Sam

Assistant Director
