Freedom of Information, Australian Communications and Media Authority

Dear Mr Mustafa

I refer to your email sent to the ACMA’s FOI inbox on 4 March 2016.

As it does not appear that you are making a request for documents, your
email is not a valid request under the FOI Act. Accordingly, the ACMA will
be taking no further action at this stage. Below, I provide some
information about the FOI Act, and the subject matter of your request,
which may be of use to you.

Applications under the FOI Act

In order to make a formal request under the FOI Act, the application must
seeking access to a document that is in the possession of an agency.
Further information on making an application under the FOI Act can be
found at the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner’s website
at:
[1]http://www.oaic.gov.au/freedom-of-inform....
The full text of the FOI Act is accessible via the Federal Register of
Legislation website:
[2]https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C....

Assistance in making a FOI request

The FOI Act requires an agency to take reasonable steps to assist a person
to make a valid application. As noted above, I am not of the view that
your email constitutes a valid application under the FOI Act. Further,
given the nature of your request (apparently seeking verification of a
Twitter account), it does not appear capable of being amended to form a
valid FOI request.

Should you wish to obtain access to documents under the FOI Act, your
request will need to satisfy the following criteria:

* You must state that you are making an application for the purposes of
the FOI Act.
* You must provide sufficient information concerning the document or
documents that you are seeking to enable someone to identify the
document(s) in question.
* You must provide details of how we can contact you. In this case your
email address may suffice.

Further information

In your email to the ACMA, you state that you are a DJ and music producer,
and it appears that you are requesting verification of your Twitter
account.

The ACMA is a statutory authority within the federal government portfolio
of Communications and the Arts. It is responsible for regulating
broadcasting, the internet, radiocommunications and telecommunications in
Australia. However, the ACMA is not responsible for the verification of
social media accounts such as Twitter.  It seems that the information at
the following Twitter support pages may be useful to you:
