Vice-Chancellor’s Strategic Fund (VCSF): annual expenditure, approvals, and outcomes (2019–2024)

We're waiting for Rebecca Brown to read a recent response and update the status.

I seek access to documents held by the Australian National University relating to the Vice-Chancellor’s Strategic Fund (VCSF) and any consideration of a successor or replacement strategic fund, for the period 1 January 2019 to 18 January 2026, and as specified below.

1. Annual VCSF financial summary
For each year in the period 2019–2024, documents showing:
• total VCSF funds available,
• total funds committed, and
• total funds expended.

2. Register or list of VCSF commitments
Documents (including spreadsheets, funding registers, or summaries) that list all VCSF commitments or allocations made during the period, including for each commitment:
• project or initiative name or description,
• total amount approved,
• year(s) to which the commitment relates (including whether the commitment was multi-year),
• amount expended (where recorded),
• approving delegate(s),
• area, college, portfolio, or unit responsible for the initiative, and
• role or position accountable for delivery or oversight (where recorded).

3. Reporting to Council in 2024
Documents provided to, or prepared for, University Council in calendar year 2024 that:
• report on, summarise, or outline VCSF expenditure, commitments, or financial position; or
• provide retrospective visibility of VCSF funding decisions or allocations.
This includes, but is not limited to, Council papers, attachments, briefings, financial summaries, or presentation slides.

4. Consideration of any successor strategic fund (from 11 September 2025)
Documents created on or after 11 September 2025 relating to:
• any discussion, proposal, plan, or consideration of establishing or implementing a strategic fund by the Interim Vice-Chancellor or on their behalf; and
• any related meeting notes, agendas, minutes, briefings, emails, or options papers.

On 18 January 2026, the Australian National University (the University)
received your request for access to documents under the Freedom of
Information Act 1982 (the FOI Act).

‘I seek access to documents held by the Australian National University

or implementing a strategic fund by the Interim Vice-Chancellor or on
their behalf; and

 

•       any related meeting notes, agendas, minutes, briefings, emails, or
options papers’

 

Your request has been assigned the case number 202600018, please quote
this number for any future correspondence regarding your request

 

Processing Timeframe

 

The statutory time frame for processing your request is 30 calendar days
from day after the date your request was received by the University. You
should therefore expect a decision from us by 17 February 2026.

 

This period of 30 days may be extended if we need to consult third
parties, impose a charge or for other reasons. We will advise you in
writing if this happens.
