Dear Mr Gothe-Snape,

I refer to your FOI request transferred to the AFP from the Department of
Home Affairs.

I would be grateful if you could please provide some clarification around
the documents you have requested. Are you seeking copies of messages
particularly in relation to the investigation that was discussed at Senate
Estimates on 22 October 2018 ie. the investigation into the 'au pair'
leak?

Your request as it is currently worded is quite broad, accordingly, we
would appreciate some additional information around the subject of the
messages you are seeking access to so we may identify the correct
documents.

I would appreciate your response as soon as possible.

Hello,

Thanks for getting back to me.

We know Mr Gaughan communicates with the Minister’s staff on work related matters via WhatsApp. I am looking to receive those messages from 2018.

An easy way to do this would be to look at Mr Gaughan’s phone, open WhatsApp, then find and export conversations involving staff from the Minister’s office.

We know at least one conversation - that with the chief of staff - should be there.

Yours sincerely,

Jackson Gothe-Snape

Dear Mr Gothe-Snape,

Thanks for your email. On the basis of your advice we will search for all whatsapp messages from 2018 between Deputy Commissioner Neil Gaughan and staff at the Minister's Office.

Considering the AFP’s upcoming stand down period over Christmas and New Year’s, would you be agreeable to an extension of time of 30 days pursuant to s15AA of the Act? This would extend the time to notify you of a decision to 11 February 2019.

I would be grateful if you could let me know as soon as practicable.

Hello, I understand there is a shutdown, but it should only take a few minutes to look at his phone and export the conversations. I understand there may be some decision making time but none beyond what would contemplated by the existing timeframe. On this basis I cannot agree to the extension.
