Breaches to the lobbying code from former Members of Parliament or Senators
Dear Attorney-General's Department,
I would like to request two things:
1) the number of reports of suspected breaches to the lobbying code of conduct from former members of parliament or senators.
2) the number of actual breaches to the lobbying code of conduct from former mebers of parliaments or senators. If applicable, I'd like to know how many of these resulted in the removal of the lobbyer from the register.
Yours faithfully,
Khoi
OFFICIAL
Dear Khoi,
Thank you for your request, which was received by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department (the department) Freedom of Information (FOI) section (reference number FOI25/554). We write to acknowledge your request and seek your agreement to exclude certain information from your request.
We received your FOI request on 17 November 2025 and the 30-day statutory period for processing your request commenced from the following day. A decision is therefore due by 17 December 2025. However, this may be extended if the department needs to consult third parties or for other reasons. We will advise you if this happens.
Request to exclude certain information from the scope of your request
The department is seeking your agreement to exclude the following categories of information from the documents in your request:
- duplicates of documents that are in scope;
- personal information of members of the public;
- contact details for teams, internal to the department and other agencies
- personal information belonging to officers of the department and other government agencies.
Excluding the information listed above enables us to process your request more efficiently. If you agree to the above exclusions, the names of senior executive officers will be released where they are present in the documents and do not attract an FOI exemption. In addition, publicly available telephone numbers and email addresses will generally be released.
Please note that, with some exceptions (such as personal information), documents released under the FOI Act may later be published online on the department's disclosure log http://www.ag.gov.au/RightsAndProtection....
Next steps
Please respond to this email by 20 November 2025 to confirm if you agree the exclusion of the above information.
If you would like to discuss this further, please contact the FOI Team by phoning (02) 6141 6666 or emailing [AGD request email].
Kind regards,
Andjelina

Dear Khoi
The department has begun processing your request and is seeking to confirm
our interpretation of the scope to allow us to identify relevant
documents.
The department is interpretating your request to be for:
1. The number of reports of suspected breaches of the Lobbying Code
of Conduct submitted by former MPs or senators, and
2. The number of actual breaches that were confirmed following
breach reports submitted by former MPs or senators (and any removals from
the register that followed).
Can you please confirm as soon as possible if this understanding is
correct?
We look forward to your response.
Kind regards

Dear AGD FOI Requests,
Sincere apologies I wasn't clear in my original request.
I would like to request number of reports of suspected breaches BY former MPs or Senators. That is, when the MP or senator is the one suspected of the breach, not that the MP or senator is submitting the suspected breach.
This applies to the 2nd part as well.
For clarity, my request is:
1. The number of reports of suspected breaches of the Lobbying Code
of Conduct submitted against former MPs or senators, and
2. The number of actual breaches that were confirmed following
breach reports submitted against MPs or senators (and any removals from
the register that followed).
These reports may be submitted by anyone.
Also I'm happy to extend the deadline given my initial wording was not clear - apologies again.
Yours sincerely,
Khoi Hoang
