Current APS-wide pay scales
Dear Australian Public Service Commission,
I am requesting a document that shows the most current up-to-date pay scales for all APS agencies and/or prescribed authorities.
For context, the APSC published agency pay scales as of 31 August 2023 during the previous APS-wide bargaining process that outlined min and max salaries at each APS and EL1 level for over 100 different agencies. This document is accessible here: https://www.apsc.gov.au/sites/default/fi...
I am seeking a document like this as part of my request. If such a document does not exist, I refer you to the obligation to produce such a document under section 17 of the FOI Act using data held on your systems.
If you do not have the relevant information i oblige you to transfer this request to another relevant agency for processing.
There is significant public interest in having consolidated public service remuneration data publicly available for scrutiny and accountability of public expenditure and to allow current or prospective APS employees to see how their agency fares compared to other APS agencies. This will allow interrogation of the outcomes achieved by the realignment actions taken by the APSC to normalise pay across the APS, lack of which has led to massive staff turnover at certain agencies.
Yours faithfully,
VoxPopuli

Dear VoxPopuli
I am writing to acknowledge receipt and seek clarification of your request under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 for access to documents held by the Australian Public Service Commission (Commission) as follow:
“I am requesting a document that shows the most current up-to-date pay scales for all APS agencies and/or prescribed authorities.”
The timeframe for responding to your request is 30 days from the date of receipt. Therefore, the due date for this request is 20 October 2025.
This timeframe may be extended in certain circumstances. You will be notified if these circumstances arise and the timeframe is extended.
Publicly available information
The document referred to in your request was produced during the 2023-24 APS wide bargaining round, and compiled from publicly available employment instruments. This document remains the most current and has not been updated by the Commission since it was published.
Agency pay scale information is available within APS enterprise agreements and can be found on either:
• an agency’s website, or
• Fair Work Commission enterprise agreement document search.
Additionally, the APS Remuneration Data 31 December 2024 is another publically available resource which provides APS employee aggregate base salary information across all APS classifications, as at 31 December 2024.
Based on the above advice, we would invite you to please clarify the scope of your request, or consider withdrawing it, as the Commission is unlikely to possess documents within scope of your request as framed.
We would be grateful for a response by close of business Tuesday, 30 September 2025.
Kind regards
FOI OFFICER

Dear FOI Officer,
I will not be withdrawing my request. If it assists, I clarify the scope of my request to data outlining minimum and maximum salary numbers for levels APS1-6 and EL1-EL2. If such data does not exist in a discrete document I refer you to your obligation under section 17 of the FOI Act to create such a document.
Your agency would have this data on their systems due to your responsibility in overseeing the previous APS round and your agency would have received the pay scales for the overwhelming majority of APS agencies and prescribed authorities. I understand you do not want to do the work involved in compiling the data stored in your systems, but if so, you will need to explain why this is the case on a formal FOI decision.
Yours sincerely,
VoxPopuli
