Dear NSW Fair Trading,

I was hoping you would be able to help me find documents containing the most recent statistics on annual rental evictions in New South Wales. As in, how many people are evicted annually in New South Wales.

Thanks for your time,

Please consider this a formal freedom of information request.

Yours faithfully,

Samantha Jonscher

Dear Samantha

Thank you for your email enquiry to the Department of Finance, Services
and Innovation (DFSI) on 15 May 2017 seeking statistics on annual rental
evictions in NSW.

I have spoken to NSW Fair Trading as the agency that would be likely to
hold this information. Fair Trading advised that information of this
nature is not held in the terms that you’ve specified. For example, it
only records information about “terminated” tenancies when a landlord,
agent or tenant lodges a complaint with Fair Trading and seeks their
intervention in resolving the dispute. Fair Trading does not automatically
collect data about every eviction or termination across NSW on an annual
basis as it is not a legal obligation of landlords or agents to provide
this information to Fair Trading on the cessation of a tenancy agreement.
As such, we are unable to provide you with the information you requested
in your below email.

You may still wish to lodge a formal or informal application for other
information or related information held by Fair Trading under the
Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (GIPA Act) and this can be
done via our website at the following link:

[1]https://www.finance.nsw.gov.au/accessing...

In order for DFSI to process a formal request under GIPA, you will need to
complete the application form and pay the $30 application fee. It is also
helpful to include as much specific information as necessary in your scope
to enable us to identify the information you are asking for, as without it
we may be unable to validate and progress your application.

Please contact me or the GIPA and Privacy team at the number or email
listed below if you’d like further information or assistance.

Regards,
