Dear Mr Skeggs
Thank you for your recent email (15/4/2016) requesting, under the Freedom
of Information Act (1982), the number of family day care educators located
in Western Australia.
Under the Education and Care Services National Law (the National Law),
ACECQA is required to keep the following registers:
• approved providers (Section 266)
• education and care services (Section 267)
• certified supervisors (Section 268)
and these are publicly available on ACECQA’s website at

The National Law does not require ACECQA, nor a state or territory
regulatory authority, to keep a register of family day care educators. As
such, ACECQA does not hold the information you have requested.
Under the National Law, responsibility to maintain a register of
individual family day care educators resides with the approved provider of
a family day care service – S 269 (1) the approved provider of a family
day care service must keep at its principal office a register of each
family day care educator and any other person engaged by or registered
with a family day care service to educate and care for a child.
However, the number of family day care services (or schemes as they are
sometimes called) registered in Western Australia is publicly available in
ACECQA’s most recent NQF Quarterly Snapshot. As at 31 December 2015, there
were 60 services (pg 5). Each of these services then employs a number of
educators, depending on the size of the service.
