Scamwatch Statistics

Eric P made this Freedom of Information request to Australian Competition and Consumer Commission

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Australian Competition and Consumer Commission,

As a Security Researcher working on a piece about cybersecurity training for young people, I have been reviewing the Budd-e cyber smart programme, and was interested to find a great deal of importance attached to the reporting of scams and other online threats (Specifically to Scamwatch).

As such I am interested in the statistics ie how many scams have been reported to your organisation, how many of these have come from young people and what the outcomes have been, ie where action has been taken and what that action was, ie was it referred to another department or was a conviction recorded.

As such I am seeking access to reports and statistics of the scamwatch programme.

Your help would be much appreciated, and will go towards my endeavours to help keep young people safe online.

Many Thanks

Eric P
