OFFICIAL
Dear Alex Pentland

I refer to your request for "access to the Style Guides/Brand Guides/Writing Guides currently used by Defence Housing Australia" under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act 1982) on 6 November 2023.

The Australian Government Style manual, which guides all Australian Government departments' and agencies' writing, is publicly available and may be found at https://stylemanual.gov.au.

If this satisfies your request or I have not received a response to this email within 3 days, being by close of business 13 November 2023, I will take your request to have been withdrawn.

Alternatively, if this does not satisfy your request and so that it can be best addressed, can I ask the reason you are requesting this information? This will help me identify and refine all the documentation you are seeking. For example, logo and email signature guidance documentation.

It would also assist me greatly in handling your request if I may have a direct email and/ or a phone number.

Please note that any requests not relating to your personal information may incur charges as provided for under the FOI Act. We will notify you of the details and due dates of any applicable charges, along with how you may apply for a reduction or waiver.

Kind regards,

Bethany | She/Her |Senior Privacy and FOI Officer

Dear Freedom of Information,

For the purpose of clarifying this request, nothing the broadened/generalised style manual that is publicly available, several government entities have their own accommodating style guides, branding guides, or other tools to assist with their writing and style of tone and speech, and to build a brand identity. An example of a similar request in this regard is a FOI request I've conducted with the AEC accessible here (https://www.righttoknow.org.au/request/s...) which provides information into visual identity (logos and such), publishing guidelines, writing style, a separate guide, and templates, which were all obtainable without charge.

For the purpose of the request: Along with my existing interest in free information and exchange, I believe it is important to know how governments talk, the way they talk, and communicate to the public, as it lets us know about how we're supposed to act and gives us greater clarity into the openness of government entities and operations.

I will separately send you an email from my email confirming my personal email address and phone number too for the sake of your request but would appreciate if as much of the request as possible could be done on the Right To Know site, given the site's use as a tool for transparency.

Yours sincerely,

Alex Pentland
