Victorian statistics for work-related injuries

Julie Middleton made this Freedom of Information request to Worksafe Victoria

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Julie Middleton

Dear Worksafe Victoria,

Safe Work Australia (SWA) has national statistics for workers' compensation claims and the information is limited to serious claims.

I am seeking Victorian annual statistics from 2000 for the following:

1. The annual number of substantiated or accepted complaints/claims as being work-related injuries for Victorian workers.

2. The annual number for substantiated or accepted as being work-related injuries for: "psychological injuries" and "physical injuries". The two figures will reconcile with the figures in point 1.

3. The annual number of complaints - that were not substantiated or accepted - as being work-related injuries for Victorian workers.

4. The annual number for complaints - that were not substantiated or accepted - as being work related for: "psychological injuries" and "physical injuries". The two figures will reconcile with the figures in point.

Yours faithfully,

Julie Middleton

Dear Karen van der Chys (WorkSafe),

Your letter of 18 February 2020 has no statistics attached.

From the statistics provided by Queensland and New South Wales, it seems there is an average of around 35% of the admitted claims are "serious".

The legislation in Victoria does seem fairer for the injured.

Yours sincerely,

Julie Middleton
