Prayer in Parliament

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Department of the Senate should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Department of the Senate,

Consistent with the Freedom of Information Act I seek documents, emails, correspondence and messages from Senator Sue Lines or her office since June 2022 to staff within the Department of the Senate relating to the reading of the Lord's Prayer in Parliament.

Yours faithfully,

D

Usher of the Black Rod (SEN), Department of the Senate

Dear D

Thank you for your request for information. The Department of the Senate is exempt from Freedom of Information Act requests by s.68A of the Parliamentary Service Act 1999, however, responses may be provided to requests for administrative information of the department. Correspondence to or from senators on matters related to proceedings of the parliament or its committees do not fall into the category of administrative information. It would be a matter for individual senators to confirm whether any such correspondence exists or whether to publish it.
